BNP Paribas SA is a French international banking conglomerate formed through the merger of Banc Nationale de Paris (BNP) and Paribas in 2000. It is the 8th largest bank in the world by total assets, and is currently present in 72 countries. It is one of the three major international French banks, along with Société Générale and Credit Agricole.

Despite some legal difficulties in 2014, including the largest amount of fines for violating US sanctions, it is one of the ten largest banks worldwide.
