State Bank of Travancore (SBT) is headquartered in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It was a major associate of State Bank of India.

SBT was a subsidiary of State Bank Group. It was the main bank of Kerala. Overall, SBT had a network of 1,157 branches and 1,602 ATMs as of 31 March 2015, covering 18 states and three union territories.

On 15 February 2017, the Union Cabinet approved the proposal to merge SBT and four other associate banks with SBI. It finally merged with the parent bank on 31 March 2017. In 1960, it became a subsidiary of State Bank of India under the SBI Subsidiary Banks Act, 1959 enacted by the Parliament of India.

Between 1959 and 1965, SBT acquired several small, private banks in Kerala.

1959: SBT acquired the assets and liabilities of Indo-Mercantile Bank,

1961: SBT acquired Travancore Forward Bank (est. 1929), Kottayam Orient Bank (est. 1926), and Bank of New India (est. 1944), when the Reserve Bank of India placed banks under moratorium.

1963: SBT acquired Vasudev Vilasam Bank (est. 1930).

1964: After the Reserve Bank of India placed banks under moratorium, SBT acquired Cochin Nair Bank (est. 1929) and Latin Christian Bank (1928 in Ernakulam). It also acquired Champakulam Catholic Bank, which was established in Alleppey in 1929.

1965: SBT acquires Bank of Alway (est. 1942), and Chaldean Syrian Bank, founded in 1918 by several prominent families of Syrian Christian origin.

    The Magnetic Ink Character Recognition Code (MICR) is a numeric code that uniquely identifies a Bank-Branch participating in the ECS Credit scheme. MICR code consists of 9 digits e.g 500447125

    • First 3 digits represent the city (500447125)
    • Next 3 digits represent the bank (500447125)
    • Last 3 digits represent the branch (500447125)

    The MICR Code assigned to a bank branch is written on the MICR band of cheque leaves issued by bank branches.
