The bank was accorded Scheduled Status by the Reserve Bank of India with effect from October 26, 1996 – the first co-operative bank in the whole of South India to get this status. The then Governor of Reserve Bank of India, Dr. C. Rangarajan attended the occasion. The Bank has been registered as a Multi-State Co-operative Bank under the Multi-State Co-operative Societies Act, 1984 with effect from 30.05.2001 – again the first co-operative bank in South India to achieve this coveted position.

Andhra Pradesh Mahesh Co-Operative Urban Bank Limited was registered as a Primary Co-operative Society on 30th June, 1977. The bank commenced its operations on 9th August, 1978.

Mahesh Bank currently has 45 branches – 35 in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and one each in Khammam, Warangal, Karimnagar in the state of Telangana, Vijayawada, Guntur, Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam in the state of Andhra Pradesh, Jaipur and Bhilwara in Rajasthan and Mumbai.
